Roberto Vannacci Sets Conditions for Meloni: "We Need a Written Agreement, No Blank Checks"

Futuro Nazionale Opens the Door While Setting Strict Conditions

Roberto Vannacci has signaled openness to cooperating with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Italy's centre-right coalition but insists that Futuro Nazionale will not play a secondary role.

In an interview with Corriere dell'Umbria, the party founder said his movement belongs to the political right but has no intention of becoming "the coalition's spare wheel." Any alliance would require a formal political agreement.

A Public and Written Policy Agreement

According to Vannacci, any cooperation must be based on a written, public and verifiable policy agreement containing clear implementation deadlines.

The aim, he said, is to ensure that voters can assess whether the commitments made by coalition partners are actually fulfilled.

Futuro Nazionale's Policy Priorities

The proposed platform includes stronger immigration controls within the framework of existing laws, a revision of the European Green Deal, the return to nuclear energy, tax reductions for workers and families, stronger public security, construction of new prisons, greater support for Italian businesses and a foreign policy centred on Italy's national interest.

A Different Position on Ukraine

One of Vannacci's key demands concerns foreign policy.

He argues that Meloni should change Italy's current approach to the war in Ukraine by ending the supply of weapons and financial assistance unless there is a clearly defined strategy and achievable political objectives.

This position differs from the current Italian government's policy of supporting Kyiv alongside its Western allies.

"No Blank Checks"

Vannacci also ruled out unconditional support for any future government.

If Futuro Nazionale's parliamentary votes became decisive, he said support would only be granted for measures consistent with the agreed programme and with clearly defined deadlines.

Government positions, he added, should be the consequence of electoral support rather than political bargaining.

Defining His Political Identity

During the interview, Vannacci described himself as representing a national, sovereign, identity-based, meritocratic and socially oriented right-wing movement.

He stressed that Futuro Nazionale seeks public support exclusively through democratic mechanisms such as elections, party congresses and popular participation.

Speaking about fascism, he said it belongs to history, recalling that he swore loyalty to the Italian Republic and reaffirming his rejection of political violence except in cases of legitimate self-defence.

Winning Back Non-Voters

Vannacci believes the movement's greatest electoral opportunity lies not in attracting supporters from other centre-right parties but in mobilising citizens who have stopped voting.

According to him, Futuro Nazionale's primary objective is to bring abstaining voters back to the ballot box by offering a political alternative capable of restoring confidence in democratic participation.

Within this framework, any dialogue with Giorgia Meloni is presented as a means of implementing a shared programme rather than simply negotiating political power.
