Milan’s design ecosystem grows by 2.6% in 2024

In 2024, the number of companies operating within Milan’s design ecosystem increased by 2.6% compared to the previous year, according to the second edition of (Eco) Sistema Design Milano: Annual Report 2025, presented by the Salone del Mobile.

Data from the Chamber of Commerce of Milan, Monza, Brianza and Lodi show that 2,333 companies and sole proprietorships were active in the design sector across Milan and its surrounding areas last year. These businesses employed 7,719 people, marking a 1.7% increase in employment compared to 2023. Both figures represent the highest levels recorded since 2009.

The report also confirms the strong economic impact of Salone del Mobile on the city. The event generated an estimated €278 million for Milan’s economy, reinforcing its role as a key driver of growth for the city’s creative and cultural industries.

Milan continues to strengthen its position as a global hub for design, attracting new businesses, talent, and investment to the sector.
