In a Middle East once again marked by rising tensions, Italy has clearly reiterated its position: defend the security of its citizens, support its allies, and work to prevent further destabilization of the region. This is the message delivered by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who assured that the government is following the evolution of the crisis with the utmost attention and in constant coordination with Western allies, starting with the United States.

The escalation developed after raids carried out by Washington together with Israel against military targets in Iran, operations aimed at striking strategic infrastructure and capabilities considered a threat to regional stability. Tehran’s response, with the launch of missiles toward several countries in the area, further heightened tensions, indirectly involving numerous actors in the Middle East and fueling fears of a wider conflict.

In this complex scenario, Italy reaffirms the value of the transatlantic alliance and its special relationship with Washington, regarded as a pillar of international security. Diplomatic contacts between Rome and the United States remain constant and marked by strong cooperation, with the shared belief that regional stability is a strategic objective for the entire international community.

At the same time, the government has activated all structures of its diplomatic network to guarantee assistance to Italian citizens present in the area. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, about one hundred thousand Italians are directly or indirectly involved in the areas affected by the crisis. For this reason, a dedicated task force has been established which in recent hours has already handled thousands of requests for information and support, helping facilitate the departure of around ten thousand Italian nationals from the most exposed areas.

Italian embassies and consulates are working in close contact with local authorities and airlines to ensure rapid solutions for those who need to leave the region or who are temporarily stranded in airports across the Gulf. The priority, Tajani reiterated, is to ensure protection and assistance for Italian citizens while maintaining constant dialogue with all international partners involved in managing the crisis.

The foreign minister also firmly condemned the Iranian attacks against several Gulf countries, stressing that actions of this kind risk striking states not directly involved and triggering a dangerous spiral of instability. Italy expressed solidarity with the countries that were targeted by missile launches, including Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, the government’s line remains guided by responsibility and pragmatism. Italy clearly supports the objective of preventing Iran from acquiring military nuclear weapons and continues to work with its allies to promote a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

At a time in international affairs marked by deep uncertainty, the Italian government is therefore focusing on a strategy that combines firmness and dialogue: on one hand the defense of security and Western alliances, and on the other the commitment to keeping the path of diplomacy open. This position reflects the belief that only through cooperation among partners and respect for international balances can a new escalation be avoided and more stable conditions be built for the Middle East and for Europe.
