Trump has decided to increase American defense spending by 50%, reaching a total of $1.5 trillion in 2027, compared to the $901 billion budget approved last year by Congress.
The American President claimed that this measure was crucial due to the “very troubled and dangerous times,” which he said were created under his watch.
In addition, the initiative aims to build what Trump has called the “Dream Military,” designed to “keep us safe and secure, regardless of the foe,” he emphasized.
Following these statements, companies such as Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin saw their shares rise by about 5%.
Nevertheless, economists have previously warned that the gap between US expenditures and revenues has become unsustainable. Trump, however, argued that Washington could "easily achieve" his proposed $1.5 trillion defense budget, thanks to revenue generated from tariffs. Since his first term in office, Trump has consistently advocated for increased defense spending by the US and its allies.
