Starmer is "proud" of raising taxes, but what about his citizens?

Amidst backlash and plummeting poll numbers, Keir Starmer stands behind Finance Minister Reeves' budget and even stated he's "proud" of it. The controversial plan has raised taxes by 26 billion pounds and is intended as a fiscally responsible answer to the ongoing economic stagnation the UK is facing.
Reeves' plan is being critisized from both sides of the political isle, with Labour MPs up in arms against Starmer's plan to "restructure" welfare and Reform UK critisizing the government's raising both taxes and spending.
Polls have been showing the decline of both traditional British parties for months, as Farage's Reform gains ground. The right wing party's success shows a growing disillusionment with establishment politics in Britain and a commitment to Brexit that puts blame on other factors for the current economic issues the country's facing.
The government is clearly struggling with both public finance and opinion, is their middle of the road approach going to work or is it going to keep angering both sides of every issue at hand?
