The UN Security Council has approved a US-backed resolution endorsing President Donald Trump’s plan to stabilize Gaza, combining transitional governance, international security measures, and economic recovery, with the long-term goal of Palestinian self-determination.

On Monday, the UN Security Council adopted a US-drafted resolution endorsing President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza. The resolution authorizes the creation of an international stabilization force and a temporary governing body, the “Board of Peace,” which will oversee reconstruction and economic development in the Gaza Strip.

The plan aims to stabilize Gaza by combining security measures, transitional governance, and economic recovery, with a long-term goal of Palestinian self-determination. The “Board of Peace” will manage reconstruction and coordinate humanitarian aid, while the international force is tasked with demilitarizing the region, including decommissioning weapons and dismantling military infrastructure.

Hamas has stated it will not disarm, while Israel expressed concerns about references to a future Palestinian state. The Palestinian Authority welcomed the resolution and confirmed its willingness to participate. Russia and China abstained from the vote, criticizing the limited role of the UN.

The resolution is considered a key step to legitimize international efforts in Gaza and encourage other countries to contribute to stabilization. By combining governance, security, and reconstruction, the plan seeks to reduce violence, restore order, and potentially create conditions for future peace and statehood.
