Launching a third party is “ridiculous,” said Donald Trump when asked about Elon Musk’s newly formed America Party. “It just creates confusion. A third party doesn’t work,” the president added.

But Musk’s goal is clear: to peel votes from Trump, win key congressional seats, and block the president’s legislative agenda—starting with the controversial “Big Beautiful Bill.” Musk aims to capitalize on the rift between Trump and traditional Republicans, hoping to reshape Capitol Hill’s balance of power ahead of the 2026 midterms.

“The way to break the one-party system is to concentrate power like Epaminondas at Leuctra,” Musk posted on X, referencing a famous ancient battle tactic. He said his strategy focuses on flipping “2–3 Senate and 8–10 House seats” to gain decisive leverage over hot-button legislation.

The America Party’s agenda includes debt reduction, AI-driven defense modernization, pro-tech policies, deregulation, free speech, pro-natality measures, and centrist stances on most other issues. While Trump dismissed the party, Musk has already attracted interest from figures like Marc Cuban and Anthony Scaramucci. MAGA voices like Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Taylor Greene are also rumored to be considering a shift.

Musk’s move into politics has stirred concern in the financial world. Azoria Partners delayed a Tesla-linked fund launch, citing “a conflict with his CEO responsibilities.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, never close with Musk, said, “He should focus on his companies and stay out of politics.”
