On the eve of the official opening of the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney hosted an informal evening meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Held overnight local time at the resort where leaders are gathering, the discussion started with warm greetings and light exchanges, offering an early opportunity to align views before formal sessions begin.

According to Italian sources, Rome’s priority is to agree on a coordinated European position regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, with the aim of then aligning this stance with US President Donald Trump as broader talks advance.
