Stellantis has appointed Antonio Filosa as its new Chief Executive Officer, following a unanimous vote by the Board of Directors. The decision comes after an extensive search for internal and external candidates, led by a special committee chaired by John Elkann.

Filosa succeeds Carlos Tavares, who stepped down in December 2024 during a turbulent period for the automotive giant formed from the merger of FCA and PSA. Filosa will officially take on CEO responsibilities starting June 23. A shareholder meeting will soon be convened to elect him as an executive board member.

The board praised Filosa’s “proven track record over 25 years in the auto industry, global experience, deep knowledge of the company, and strong leadership skills.” Filosa has held senior roles across the Americas. As COO for South America, he led FIAT to market leadership and significantly expanded brands like Peugeot, Citroën, Ram, and Jeep. He also spearheaded the launch of Jeep in Brazil through the Pernambuco plant, now one of South America’s largest automotive hubs.

More recently, Filosa served as CEO of Jeep, driving its growth in Europe, particularly with the success of models like the Jeep Avenger. In December 2024, he was named COO for the Americas, where he began streamlining U.S. operations, cutting dealer inventories, reshaping leadership, and strengthening ties with key stakeholders. John Elkann will remain Executive Chairman. Filosa is expected to unveil a new leadership team upon taking office.

“Elkann’s statement highlighted Filosa’s deep understanding of the company and the industry, describing him as well-prepared to lead Stellantis through this pivotal phase.” Filosa called the appointment “an immense honor,” expressing gratitude to the board and emphasizing the strength of Stellantis’s brands, people, and century-long legacy of innovation.
