Over the weekend, tech billionaire and US administration advisor Elon Musk reportedly tried to convince US President Donald Trump to remove the tariffs and de-escalate the trade war, according to the Washington Post, citing anonymous sources close to the US administration. However, in light of Trump’s recent statements about China and Europe, Musk’s requests remained unheard.

This is the first time that deep disagreements between POTUS and Musk have publicly emerged, despite Musk having financed almost $290 million for Trump’s election campaign, as well as campaigns for other GOP members during the last US elections. Yet, disagreements don’t end there: Musk also harshly criticized Peter Navarro, asenior White House advisor and member of the team handling US trade policy, stating that Navarro’s PhD in economics might not be necessarily positive. Despite his role within the Trump administration and new DOGE department, Musk is still leading Tesla, which, like many other companies, could directly face the consequences of US trade policy. This isn't concerning just for the supply of components for EV manufacturing but also for European and Chinese consumers who, with the rise in tariffs, might choose not to buy Tesla products anymore.
