EU Defense summit: joint approach on security concerns

On Wednesday, March 12th, defense ministers of Italy, Germany, France, Poland, and the UK gathered in Paris for the EU defense summit. Among participants at the first table was Rustem Umerov, Ukrainian Minister of Defense, to discuss aid for Ukraine, while the second part of the meeting was focused on defense capabilities of European member states.
Ministers discussed protection of the European borders and which will be the next steps for strengthening member states' security, as well as Ukraine.Furthermore, French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu stated that fifteen countries are willing to revisit Ukraine' security architecture.
During the summit, possibilities of increasing military support to Ukraine were also considered, including supplying even more advanced weapons and ensuring protection of sensitive infrastructures, such as nuclear power plants.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stated that Europe can no longer rely entirely on U.S. presence in Europe, which is why it is essential to increase EU's defense capabilities. Following the summit, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius remarked that Europe has no time to waste on bureaucracy and emphasized the need for a joint approach on European security.
