The G7 Foreign Ministers' meeting currently underway, started on Wednesday, March 12th, and is taking place in Charlevoix, Quebec, until Friday, March 14th. The foreign ministers of Canada, Italy, Germany, U.S., France, UK, and Japan are attending. The main topics include the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, stability of the Indo-Pacific region, ongoing crises in Haiti and Venezuela, and also peace and security on the African continent.

The summit, with the presence of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, marks the first official visit of a senior Trump administration official to Canada since tensions between the two countries escalated over trade, economic, and political issues. Notably, it was Rubio who stated in the days leading up to the G7 that he wanted to push for the joint statement on the war in Ukraine from the G7 countries to avoid using hostile language toward the Kremlin.

Meanwhile, Canada, which held the rotating presidency, has called for support for Ukraine against Russian aggression, and the same position was held by David Lammy, the British Foreign Secretary.
