On Tuesday, March 11th, U.S. and Ukrainian delegations will meet in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to look for a path towards ending the conflict in Ukraine. The day before, Saudi Crown Prince and PM Mohammad bin Salman met in Jeddah with Ukrainian leader Zelensky, who won’t be present at Tuesday’s talks but expressed optimism and suggested an “air and sea ceasefire”.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the minerals deal's signing – which will be discussed during Tuesday’s meeting – will be a key requirement for the United States to keep supporting Ukraine. On Monday, as he was heading to Jeddah, Secretary of State Marco Rubio also expressed similar views, stating that Tuesday’s talks will be a great test to evaluate how much Ukraine is willing to concede in order to reach a peace agreement.
Steve Witkoff – U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East – also expressed optimism about the imminent signing of the minerals deal between Ukraine and the United States. Additionally, just before Rubio’s arrival in Jeddah, the U.S. delegation expressed satisfaction with the high level of officials - chosen by Zelensky - who will attend the meeting.
The Ukrainian delegation will be led by Andriy Yermak, Zelensky’s top chief advisor, alongside Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, and Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa.
