The Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in the framework of G7 has addressed the call to undertake an international conference on the problems of post-war restoration of Gaza. The attention of the world leadership is being actively focused on how to cope with the massive humanitarian crisis and restore infrastructure in the region.
The timing of the suggestion is crucial with the escalating tensions in the Middle East having high probabilities of causing further regional instability. Tajani’s urge exposes the desire for a comprehensive strategy which will mobilize resources including funds and infrastructure from G7 countries for the recovery and transformation of Gaza.
He added that such a strategy cannot work without the participation of the G7 since these States are birthing the major burden of budget cuts. Particularly G7 countries will be expected to be the main actors as they are capable of providing both financial support and qualified personnel to help the state rebuild strategically important branches such as medicine, education and energy.
Moreover, the resolution proposed by Tajani fits well with the general thrust of current international diplomacy in conflict resolution especially since Gaza’s reconstruction would assist in dealing with the problems that are at the root of instability in the region over and above peace agreements. Social protection and development-oriented pursuits would foster ability to manage conflicts and prevent recurrence that would promote long-term peace in the Middle-East.

Gaza has witnessed considerable destruction during the recent hostilities between Israel and Hamas. The internal rehabilitation and long-term stability of Gaza are urgently required. The timing of the suggestion is crucial with the escalating tensions in the Middle East having high probabilities of causing further regional instability. International cooperation in helping Gaza rehabilitation
Tajani's idea of holding an international conference on Gaza serves to underline the importance of joining forces internationally to the ever increasing destruction resulting from conflict. The destruction of houses, schools and hospitals among other critical facilities has left Gaza inhabitants in undesirable conditions. With a large number of people having to move from their homes as services are less experienced, foreign coercion is increasingly being considered as necessary to put the region back to normal. He added that such a strategy cannot work without the participation of the G7 since these States are birthing the major burden of budget cuts.
