Nokia Corp on Tuesday announced a collaboration with Tokyo-based NTT Inc subsidiary, NTT Docomo to support next‑generation mobile network operations.

The Espoo, Finland-based telecommunications equipment company said it will deploy its MantaRay self-organising networks solution in Docomo's multi-vendor long term evolution and 5G radio access network.

Nokia said the deployment marks the first integration in Japan of its 5G base station with Docomo's operational systems. The rollout is expected to improve automation, operational efficiency, and customer experience while reducing costs.

Nokia added that the MantaRay SON integration will automate planning, provisioning, and verification processes, enabling closed‑loop operations without human intervention.

"Nokia is proud to partner with NTT Docomo to bring cutting-edge artificial intelligence-driven automation to Japan's telecom industry. MantaRay SON represents a significant leap forward in managing the complexity of 5G networks, delivering superior efficiency and customer experience. Together, we are shaping the future of network operations," said Mark Arkinson, head of Radio Access Networks at Nokia.

NTT Docomo Senior Vice President Masafumi Masuda added: "Nokia's highly automated MantaRay SON solution will help us deliver an enhanced customer experience by accelerating our quality improvement cycles. Its open interface capabilities will strengthen our O-Ran 5G commercial network, while its advanced AI features will reduce operational costs and further improve service quality."
