Toyota Motor global sales post new first half record

Toyota Motor Corp on Monday reported record first half sales figures with strong performance both domestically and internationally.


The Aichi, Japan-based auto manufacturer said that total worldwide sales for the six months from April to September increased by 5.0% to a record 5.6 million vehicles compared with the same period last year, with September sales 2.8% higher at 949,153 vehicles.


Sales in the Japanese domestic market were up 5.3% in the six months ended September, while sales outside of Japan increased 5.0% to a record 4.7 million vehicles.


These figures comprise the Toyota brand, including Lexus, in addition to Daihatsu and Hino trucks.


While sales of Toyota and Lexus branded vehicles outside of Japan increased by 5.6% in the last six months to a new record, Japanese sales declined by 0.4%. Total sales of the two brands were up 4.7% for the six months to a record high for a fiscal first half.


Daihatsu sales jumped 29% in Japan, while sales outside of Japan fell 21% over the same period. Total sales were up 14%.


Worldwide Hino sales were down by 14%, falling by 26% in Japan and by 7.9% in other markets.


Toyota has sold a total of 8.4 million vehicles worldwide so far in 2025, an increase of 5.8% on the financial first half in 2024
