Nokia Corp and Hitachi Ltd have been employed by the Singapore Land Transport Authority to upgrade surveillance systems across the rail network.
Nokia, an Espoo, Finland-based telecommunications equipment company, will deploy its networking products in partnership with Hitachi Rail, a subsidiary of the Tokyo-based conglomerate.
The improvements being made will enhance the closed-circuit television network across Singapore's rail system, which serves millions of passengers each day.
"The CCTV cameras play a critical role within the LTA railway system, providing real-time monitoring and video surveillance services that ensure public safety, help spot illegal activities, and manage traffic patterns," Hitachi said. "With CCTV cameras placed across more than 50 stations, LTA needed a network infrastructure that could meet its growing capacity demands."
Nokia will deploy its optical local area network architecture, an offering that requires 70% less cabling and 40% less power compared to traditional copper-based LAN.
