According to data released by ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers Association) the European car market saw a 3.1% drop in registrations in February (compared to the same month last year), marking the worst decline in the last five months.
Among car manufacturers facing a decline there's Tesla, which registered only 16,888 new cars in Europe in February, a 40.1% drop compared to the same month last year. However, the sales slump did not affect the European EV sector, which saw a 26% increase in the Eurozone.
Tesla is currently facing difficulties for several reasons: it is dealing with delays in the delivery of the new Model Y – a bestseller in need of updates – and the implications of CEO Elon Musk’s ties to the Trump administration and the far-right German party AfD (Alternative for Germany), which have raised concerns among many European consumers and potential buyers.
Stellantis, also experiencing a decline compared to last year, recorded 155,970 registrations in February, a 16.2% decrease compared to 2024 (18.7%). However, unlike Tesla, Stellantis is more stable. The company is awaiting the appointment of a new CEO, which is expected by June. In the meantime, the company has chosen to focus on new electric models for the Citroen and Fiat brands, which will be affordably priced to capture the market segment that still has doubts about purchasing electric vehicles due to high prices.
