Italian inflation increased in February, reaching the same percentage values seen in October 2023 and rising (+0.2%) compared to January. According to preliminary data from Istat (Istito Nazionale di Statistica), this trend reflects energy price hikes, which have increased from -0.7% to +0.6% over the course of february.

Food prices also rose by 0.7%, including both processed and unprocessed products, as well as goods in the so-called "shopping cart." However, a slowdown was recorded for non-regulated energy goods (such as domestic fuels), which went from -3.0% to -1.9%, and an acceleration in the price growth of unprocessed food (from +2.2% to +2.9%) and processed food (from +1.7% to +2.2%).

Prices for transport services fell (from +2.5% to +1.9%), as well as those for cultural activities and personal care (from +3.3% to +3.0%) and communications services (from +1.1% to +0.5%). On the other hand, core inflation remained stable in February (+1.8% as in january). Thus, overall inflation soared to +1.2%, while core inflation rose to +0.7%, with the harmonized consumer price index (HICP) showing a monthly change of +0.1% and an annual change of +1.7%.
