The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, which monitors rates for ships transporting dry bulk commodities, declined for the sixth consecutive session on Monday, dropping around 0.5% to 1,529 points, its lowest level since November 8.
Baltic dry index at over two-week low
The decrease was driven by weakness in the larger vessel segments. The capesize index, which typically handles 150,000-ton cargoes like iron ore and coal, fell by 13 points to a two-week low of 2,613 points. Similarly, the panamax index, which carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, dropped 15 points to a more than one-year low of 1,068 points.
Supramax index unchanged
Meanwhile, the supramax index, which tracks smaller vessels, remained unchanged at 984 points.
