STOXX indices up amid mixed earnings reports
HSBC's shares surged 3.9% after the bank reported better-than-expected profits and revenues and a $3 million share buyback announcement. Adidas saw a 2.6% increase following a 71% jump in net profit for Q3 and higher sales to China. In contrast, Novartis dropped 3.7% despite raising its full-year guidance for the third time this year. BP fell about 1% after reporting its weakest quarterly earnings in nearly four years.
Banco Santander and Lufthansa shares fall; German consumer climate improves
Banco Santander's shares slid almost 3.7% as its quarterly results failed to meet expectations, while Lufthansa shares decreased by 3% after announcing a decline in profits. On a positive note, Germany's GfK Consumer Climate Indicator rose more than anticipated.
