On Thursday, the UK Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) initiated an investigation into Alphabet Inc's ties with artificial intelligence company Anthropic PBC, citing potential concerns regarding competition in the AI market.
In September, the CMA had previously approved Amazon.com Inc's partnership with Anthropic following a phase 1 investigation. The CMA assessed Amazon's arrangements with Anthropic against specific thresholds for turnover and market share, determining that neither was met, thus ruling out the need for a further investigation.
