The Tokyo, Japan-based technology conglomerate has acquired Boca Raton, Florida-based KinaTrax to provide its sports data business with biomechanical and analytics expertise and markerless motion capture technology for in-game performance data.
"The camera systems are currently deployed in more than 75 stadiums and labs across organizations — Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association — and are expanding to additional sports leagues," Sony said.
"The comprehensive data acquisition and analysis toolset is operationalized for everyday use by players, GMs, coaches, trainers, medical staff and researchers, providing value beyond traditional scouting, coaching and training."
