Stellantis starts Fiat 500 Hybrid production to boost Italy’s automotive output and jobs.

Stellantis has started production of the Fiat 500 Hybrid at its Mirafiori plant in Turin, aiming to produce around 100,000 vehicles annually. The move is seen as a major boost for Italy’s struggling automotive sector, which hit a 68-year low in production in 2024.

The Mirafiori plant had experienced a 70% drop in output due to weak demand for electric vehicles, including the discontinued Fiat 500e, hitting local employment and supply chains. The new hybrid model, being more affordable and practical, is expected to revive production, safeguard jobs, and strengthen the regional economy.

Stellantis plans to gradually ramp up production, potentially adding a second shift and 400 new jobs from spring 2026. The launch of the 500 Hybrid is also crucial for maintaining Italy’s competitiveness in the automotive industry amidst the transition to hybrid and electric technologies and growing Asian competition.
