The Federal Statistical Office has reported the number of jobs lost in the current year: 48,700.
The decline amounts to 6.3%, comparing the first nine months of 2025 with the same period of the previous year. This is the most significant drop among industrial sectors with more than 200,000 employees.
The crisis mainly affects supplier companies, with a 4% cut in jobs in the bodywork, superstructure, and trailer sectors, while the production of automotive parts and accessories has fallen by as much as 11%.
But this is not the only declining figure in Europe’s economic powerhouse: metal production and processing is down by 5.4%, while the precision optics industry has suffered a 3% decrease.
