Emirates has confirmed a major order for 65 Boeing 777‑9 aircraft, valued at $38 billion, reinforcing its position as Boeing’s top 777X customer and supporting the planemaker’s study of a larger 777‑10 variant.

Emirates has placed a substantial order for 65 additional Boeing 777‑9 aircraft—bringing its total 777X family order to 270 jets. The announcement was made at the start of the 2025 Dubai Airshow and coincides with a feasibility study by Boeing for a larger 777‑10 variant, which gives Emirates flexibility to convert some of its orders into either the extended 777‑10 or the smaller 777‑8. Despite ongoing delivery delays—with the 777X now expected no earlier than 2027—Emirates described the deal as a long‑term commitment aligned with its fleet expansion and Dubai’s growth strategy.

The order also covers 130 GE9X engines, making Emirates the largest customer for GE Aerospace’s flagship engine with over 540 engines on order overall. The announcement was well received in the markets: shares of Boeing (ticker BA) have shown signs of recovery from recent lows. For example, Boeing’s stock has fallen about 9.47% over the past month and dropped approximately 18% over the past three months. Over the past year, however, Boeing’s shares rallied roughly 38.9%, despite the 777X programme’s troubles.

This deal underlines Emirates’ strategy to boost its long‑haul capacity with fuel‑efficient wide‑body jets and positions it as a strong partner in shaping Boeing’s next‑generation aircraft developments. The airline’s support for the 777‑10 study may influence Boeing’s roadmap for ultra‑high‑capacity jets. Analysts view the order as a signal of confidence in Boeing’s 777X programme despite its history of delays and charges, and as a marker of Emirates maintaining a competitive edge in global aviation while global travel demand recovers.
