German retail sales return to monthly growth in September

German retail sales returned to monthly growth in September, but the annual advance eased, numbers on Friday showed.

According to Destatis, retail sales rose 0.2% in September from August. They had fallen 0.5% on-month in August. The September reading was in line with the FXStreet cited consensus.

"Retail sales in the food sector rose by 0.3% in September 2025 compared to the previous month," Destatis said. "In the non-food retail sector, calendar- and seasonally adjusted sales fell by 0.6% in September 2025 compared to the previous month."

Year-on-year, retail sales rose 0.2% in September, the annual growth abating from 1.4% in August.
