Microsoft and OpenAI have finalized a new strategic agreement, marking one of the largest partnerships in the history of artificial intelligence.

Under the deal, Microsoft will acquire a 27% ownership stake in OpenAI, valued at approximately $135 billion. The tech giant will also retain access to OpenAI’s models and technologies until 2032, including those that have reached the benchmark of artificial general intelligence (AGI).

At the same time, Microsoft will no longer hold the right of first refusal on OpenAI’s compute resources. However, the AI startup has committed to investing an additional $250 billion in Microsoft’s Azure cloud services. Following the announcement, Microsoft shares rose nearly 4% in early trading.

The new structure solidifies Microsoft’s position as a key player in the global AI race while granting OpenAI greater independence and flexibility in its future collaborations.
