German producer prices tamer than expected in September

German producer prices were weaker than expected last month, numbers on Monday showed, with energy prices continuing to weaken.

Destatis said producer prices declined 0.1% in September from August, but had been expected to perk up 0.1%, according to consensus cited by FXStreet. In August, producer prices weakened 0.5% from July.

Year-on-year, producer prices fell 1.7% in September, the pace of decline easing from 2.2% in August.

"In September 2025, lower energy prices continued to be the main reason for the year-on-year decline in producer prices. Intermediate goods were also less expensive than a year earlier. By contrast, capital goods, non-durable consumer goods and durable consumer goods cost more than a year earlier. When energy prices are excluded, producer prices in September 2025 rose by 0.9% on the same month of the previous year and remained unchanged compared with August 2025," Destatis said.

Energy prices fell 7.3% on-year last month and declined 0.3% from August.
