Spain consumer price inflation rate hotter than estimate in September


Spain's consumer price inflation rate was higher than expected in September, numbers from INE showed on Wednesday.


The consumer price index increased by 3.0% in September from a year earlier, picking up speed from 2.7% in August and topping the preliminary reading, which showed growth of 2.9%.


On-month, consumer prices declined 0.3% in September, a reading upwardly revised from an initially reported 0.4% decline. In August, prices were flat from July.


On a harmonised basis, allowing for EU-wide comparison, the annual consumer price inflation was 3.0%, confirming the preliminary reading. It accelerated from 2.7% in August.


Monthly, the harmonised CPI rose 0.2% in September, after being flat in August. The monthly harmonised reading topped the preliminary report, which had showed prices rose 0.1% last month.
