Germany's consumer price inflation rate accelerated last month, numbers on Tuesday confirmed.

The consumer price index rose 2.4% year-on-year, picking up speed from 2.2% in August. The reading on Tuesday confirmed a provisional estimate.

"Following a period of decreasing inflation since the start of the year, an increase in the rate of inflation was registered for the second consecutive month," Destatis analyst Ruth Brand commented.

"The prices of services continued to increase at an above-average rate. In addition, the decline in energy prices continued to slow significantly and contributed less to easing inflation than it did in the recent past."

On-month, prices rose 0.2% in September, also confirming the provisional report. Prices had risen 0.1% in August from July.

Harmonised consumer prices, a measure used to allow for EU-wide comparison, also rose 2.4% annually and 0.2% monthly. In August, harmonsied prices rose 2.1% on-year and 0.1% on-month.
