Spain retail sales growth slows to four-month low

Retail sales in Spain rose 4.5% year-on-year in August of 2025, the least in four months, easing from a 4.7% advance in the previous month.


Sales turnover slowed for service stations (3.7% vs 5.2%), and in single retail stores (3.6% vs 4.9%), department stores (1.4% vs 1.7%), and e-commerce (5.9% vs 7.1%).


On the other hand, retail sales rose faster for food (4.5% vs 4.4%), personal equipment (8.4% vs 2.8%) and household equipment (8% vs 7.2%).


Sales advanced further in small chain stores (3.8% vs 1.5%) and large chain stores (7.2% vs 6%). From the previous month, retail sales increased 0.4%, recovering from a 0.4% decline in July.
