Spain’s unemployment rises in August despite job creation

Spain saw a rise in unemployment in August, with 21,900 more jobless registrations, compared to a marginal increase of 1,400 in July. Analysts had expected an increase of just 14,200.
According to data from the Ministry of Labor, the total number of unemployed rose by 0.91% month-on-month, reaching 2.43 million people.
However, a separate report from the Ministry of Social Security painted a more positive picture: after adjusting for calendar effects and seasonality, the country recorded a net gain of 29,836 formal jobs, bringing total employment to 21.67 million workers.
