Italy’s inflation remained steady at +1.7% year-on-year in July, confirming preliminary estimates from the national statistics office Istat. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.4%.
Behind the stability of the headline figure, contrasting trends emerge. Prices for unprocessed food accelerated (+5.1%), as did processed food (+2.8%) and services, particularly transport-related services (+3.3%). Energy prices, however, declined: regulated energy slowed to +17.1% from the previous +22.6%, while non-regulated energy fell 5.2%.
Core inflation, excluding energy and fresh food, remained stable at +2.0%. The monthly increase was mainly driven by energy and services, while fresh food and durable goods recorded price declines.
For 2025, acquired inflation stands at +1.7% for the headline index and +1.9% for the core component, indicating an overall controlled price dynamic, though with localized pressures in certain key sectors.
