The U.S. House of Representatives has given final approval to President Donald Trump’s sweeping budget legislation, dubbed the “Big and Beautiful Bill.” The bill passed late on July 4 with 218 votes in favor and 214 against, following a tense night of negotiations.

As House Speaker Mike Johnson announced the result, Republican lawmakers erupted into chants of “USA! USA!” The bill is now headed to Trump’s desk for signature later this evening, marking a major political win for the president on Independence Day.

“This Big and Beautiful Bill is the most important law ever passed. I’ve never signed anything like it,” Trump said. “It will make this country a rocket.”

Johnson succeeded in rallying a small group of skeptical Republicans who had initially opposed the measure over concerns about soaring federal spending. Their last-minute support came after a marathon overnight session and intense intra-party talks.

The bill fulfills many of Trump’s core campaign promises: increasing military spending, launching a large-scale deportation campaign, and allocating $4.5 trillion to extend tax cuts first introduced during his initial term.

“Today we are laying a cornerstone for a new American golden age,” Johnson declared.

The final vote had been delayed by nearly nine hours due to a lengthy speech by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, but the bill had already passed both chambers and only required the House's formal confirmation
