US weekly jobless claims edge lower, slightly below expectations

US initial jobless claims fell slightly more than expected in the week ending June 14, 2025. According to the US Department of Labor, claims came in at 245,000, down by 5,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 250,000 (initially reported at 248,000) and below the 246,000 expected by analysts.



The four-week moving average, considered a more reliable gauge of labor market trends, rose to 245,500, an increase of 4,750 from the prior week’s average of 240,750.



Meanwhile, continuing claims for the week ending June 7 decreased by 6,000 to 1,945,000, slightly above market expectations of 1,940,000.
