Spain’s inflation rate rose to 3% in February 2025, its highest level since last June, marking the fifth consecutive monthly increase and confirming the preliminary estimate.
Spain's inflation reaches 3% in February
The main driver behind this rise was the cost of housing and utilities, which jumped to 9.8% from 7.9% in January, primarily due to a surge in electricity prices (20.7% vs. 15.6%). Other CPI categories also saw faster price increases, including communications (2% vs. 1.2%) and food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.2% vs. 1.8%). The core inflation rate, excluding volatile items like food and energy, stood at 2.2% in February, slightly above the earlier estimate of 2.1% and the lowest since December 2021.
CPI rises 0.4% monthly, EU-harmonized CPI up 2.9% YoY
Every month, the CPI rose by 0.4%, matching the preliminary estimate, after a 0.2% increase in January. Meanwhile, the EU-harmonized CPI rose 2.9% year-on-year and increased by 0.4% from the previous month, which aligns with earlier estimates.
