Italy’s industrial production saw a notable increase of 3.2% month-over-month in January 2025, surpassing market expectations of a 1.5% rise.

This marked the most considerable growth in industrial output since February 2022. Significant gains across key sectors drove the rebound: consumer goods rose by 2.6% (compared to a 2.8% decline in December), intermediate goods surged by 4% (up from a 3.3% drop), and capital goods climbed by 4.1% (recovering from a 3.3% decrease). However, energy production experienced a decline of 3.4%, reversing the previous month's 2.3% growth.
Italy's January industrial output drops 0.6% YoY
Despite the strong monthly performance, industrial output in January was 0.6% lower compared to last year, extending the trend of year-on-year contractions to 24 consecutive months.
