Italy’s consumer confidence index rose to 98.8 in February 2025, up from 98.2 in January, marking the highest level in seven months and surpassing market expectations of 98.4.

The personal climate improved from 97.1 to 98.3, while both the current and future climate indicators increased to 100.5 and 96.6, respectively. However, sentiment regarding the general economic situation declined, with the corresponding index dropping from 101.3 to 100.2. Consumers expressed increased confidence in making major purchases, reflecting a more optimistic outlook on their financial stability.
Business confidence dips
In the manufacturing sector, Italy’s confidence index rose slightly to 87 in February 2025 from 86.8 the previous month, in line with market expectations, signaling the least pessimism among manufacturers in five months. The pace of decline in new orders softened (-20.4 vs -21.8 in January), but production continued to contract (remaining steady at -20.2), as stocks of finished goods grew (unchanged at 2.4). Looking ahead, expectations for order levels dropped for the first time in over two years (-0.4 vs 0.4).
