Germany's annual inflation rate was confirmed at 2.3% in January 2025, down from 2.6% in December and in line with preliminary estimates.

Food inflation slowed sharply to 0.8%, compared to 2.0% in December, while price growth for services (4.0% vs. 4.1%) and goods (0.9% vs. 1.4%) moderated. Energy costs declined by 1.6%, the same pace as in December, driven by lower prices for motor fuels (-0.1%), heating oil (-1.2%), and electricity (-3.6%).
Core inflation, which excludes volatile items like food and energy, dropped to 2.9%, the lowest in three months. Every month, consumer prices fell by 0.2% in January, reversing the 0.5% increase in December.
EU CPI steady at 2.8%, monthly drop
The EU-harmonised CPI remained steady at 2.8% year-on-year, unchanged from December, while it fell by 0.2% month-on-month after a 0.7% rise in the previous month.
