Germany's retail sales fell by 1.6% month-over-month in December 2024, marking the most significant decline since October 2022.

This followed a downwardly revised 0.1% decrease in November and missed market expectations of a 0.2% rise. Both food and non-food sales contributed to the decline, with food sales dropping by 1.7% and non-food sales slipping by 0.7%. On an annual basis, retail sales grew by 1.8%, a slowdown from the previously revised 2.9% growth in November and falling short of the 2.5% consensus.
