Retail sales in Spain surged by 4% year-on-year in December 2024, rebounding strongly from a downwardly revised 0.9% growth in November and outperforming market expectations, which had anticipated a modest 0.5% increase.

A standout performance came from non-food products, which saw a notable 5.5% rise in December, a significant improvement from the 0.9% growth in the previous month. Among non-food categories, personal equipment sales jumped by 7.4%, compared to a 1.5% decline in November, while domestic equipment grew by 4.2%, an acceleration from 3.2% growth in the prior month. In the food sector, spending also showed strong growth, rising 2.7% in December from 1.8% in November.
