Italy’s unemployment rate climbed to 6.2% in December 2024, marking its highest level in five months and exceeding market projections of 5.7%.
Italy’s jobless rate hits 5-month high
The increase reflects the number of unemployed individuals, which grew by 88,000 to reach 1,593,000. Despite this uptick in joblessness, net employment saw a modest increase of 4,000, bringing the total number of employed individuals to 24,065,000.
Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate increased to 66.5% from 66.4%, indicating that more people entered or re-entered the workforce.
