UK manufacturing production declined by 0.3% month-over-month in November 2024, falling short of market expectations for no change but improving from the 0.6% drop in the previous month.

Among the sub-sectors, 7 out of 13 experienced declines, with the most significant negative contributors being other manufacturing and repair (-2.1%), essential pharmaceutical products (-1.9%), and transport equipment (-0.9%). Other significant declines were noted in chemicals and chemical products (-1.7%), wood & wood products & printing (-1.5%), and machinery and equipment n.e.c (-0.8%).

UK manufacturing gains in key sectors

On the positive side, production increased for coke and refined petroleum products (7%), computer, electronic, and optical products (2.6%), and rubber & plastic products & non-metallic mineral products (2.2%). Year-on-year, manufacturing output dropped by 1.2%, worsening from a 0.4% decline in October.
