Italy's annual inflation rate stood at 1.3% in December 2024, unchanged from November and in line with the preliminary estimate.

This was below the market expectation of 1.5% and remained well below the Eurozone average. Inflation for unprocessed food slowed to 2.3% from 3.8% in November, contributing to a drop in overall food inflation (1.7% vs. 2.3%). Prices also eased for recreation and cultural services (3.1% vs. 3.7%). However, inflation for regulated energy rose to 12.7% from 7.4%, while deflation in regulated energy slowed to -4.2% from -6.6%.

Core inflation in Italy slips to 1.8% in December

Meanwhile, core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, decreased slightly to 1.8% from 1.9% in November. Every month, Italian consumer prices increased by 0.1%.
