The Caixin China General Manufacturing PMI fell to 50.5 in December 2024, down from November's 51.5, missing market expectations of 51.7.

This marked the third consecutive month of factory activity growth, but output and new orders expanded slower. Foreign orders contracted after rising at the fastest rate in seven months the previous month. Employment declined for the fourth consecutive month, leading to a third month of accumulated backlogs. Meanwhile, purchasing levels increased for the third month as some firms sought to build up safety stocks. Vendor performance improved slightly for the first time since May.

Selling prices fall, confidence hits 3-month low

On the price front, selling prices fell for the first time since September despite increasing input prices. Finally, confidence weakened to a three-month low amid concerns over growth and trade, especially with the looming threat of US tariffs.
