Switzerland's current account surplus narrowed to ₣6.3 billion in the third quarter of 2024, down from a revised ₣16 billion in the same period of the previous year.

This was the smallest surplus since Q1 2023, as the goods surplus decreased to ₣26.7 billion from ₣30.1 billion in Q3 2023, while the services deficit widened to ₣8.1 billion from ₣6.1 billion.

Additionally, the primary income shortfall increased to ₣6.5 billion from ₣4.2 billion a year earlier, and the secondary income gap grew significantly to ₣5.9 billion from ₣3.8 billion, mainly due to domestic insurance companies’ claims payments abroad.
