Passenger car registrations in the European Union declined by 1.9% year-on-year to 869,816 units in November 2024, reversing a 1.1% increase in October.

Spain experienced the steepest drop, with registrations falling 12.7%, followed by Italy (-10.8%), while Germany’s market remained nearly flat (-0.5%). Among the EU’s four largest markets, only Spain saw growth, posting a 6.4% increase. In the battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment, registrations fell 9.5% to 130,757 units, reducing their market share to 15% from 16.3% a year earlier, largely due to sharp declines in Germany (-21.8%) and France (-24.4%).

Market weak in 2024 so far

Over the first eleven months of 2024, total car registrations rose slightly by 0.4% year-on-year to 9.7 million units. However, new BEV registrations decreased by 5.4%, with their overall market share slipping to 13.4%.
