Germany's annual inflation rate picked up in November, thought at a slower pace than expected, numbers on Thursday showed.

Consumer price inflation in Europe's largest economy quickened to 2.2% in November, from 2.0% in October, according to a preliminary reading from Destatis. Month-on-month, consumer prices fell 0.2%, as expected. They had risen 0.4% in October from September.

Harmonised figures

On a harmonised basis, allowing for EU-wide comparison, annual consumer price inflation was steady at 2.4% in November, where it stood in October. It had been expected to heat up to 2.6%, however. Harmonised consumer prices fell 0.7% in November from October, after a 0.4% rise in October from September. Prices had been expected to fall just 0.5%, according to FXStreet cited consensus.
