UK manufacturing production fell by 1% month-over-month in September 2024, worse than the anticipated 0.1% decline following a revised 1.3% increase in August.
UK manufacturing production drops 1% in September
Of the 13 sub-sectors, nine experienced contractions, with the most significant negative impact coming from manufacturing essential metals and metal products, which dropped by 2.7%. Other sectors showing declines included food, beverages, and tobacco (-0.5%), wood and wood products (-2.3%), pharmaceuticals (-2.5%), and electrical equipment (-6.3%). On the other hand, production rose in textiles, apparel, and leather (1.8%), coke and refined petroleum (1.6%), and rubber, plastic, and non-metallic minerals (1.1%).

Every year, manufacturing production decreased by 0.7% in September, compared to a 0.3% drop in August, falling short of market expectations for a 0.1% increase.
